Does this work for music that hasn't been downloaded thourgh itunes itself?

I have lost my iphone whilst travelling and it contained all of my music. I have it backed up on a lap top but that laptop is in Manchester England and i am living in sydney australia. So am looking to get a friend to save everything in itunes off the laptop onto an external harddrive aand then send it to me so as i can then upload it onto my new iphone and a computer on this side of the world. Is this possible? Cheers :-)
