I plan to publish an iBook and would like to give free copies to those who contribute. How can I acheive this? Also, if someone whant to purchase my book (say 50 copies) and give this book as a compliment to a group of individual, how can I achieve this? It is easisly achieved when a book is published by a publisher.

For free distribution, you could email right from IBA to certain people. Place ibook on a shared cloud drive.
There is no way to use the iBookstore for such arrangements, you will have to do the free part on your own.

But with that method the file doesn't have any DRM, right?
[I think there is some method for promotion codes. But I think that needs some fancy sales website to feed data to the iBookstore, in order for it to manage those sales. I am definitely not an expert on this but I am trying to figure out a way of handling promotion codes too.]
If your contributors have iPads and they live near you they could drop them off to you and you could download the iBook onto each machine. You mention DRM so you are worried about copying. I'm not sure if anyone could copy from an iPad in this situation.
