Should a SATA-III 6gigabit SSD work in the obtibay of a MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011?
I get 6 Gigabit speed with 3 Gigabit negotiated when using a 5400 rpm HDD in the optibay.
I'm asking, because I tried inserting a Intel 520 series 120gb SATA-III SSD in the optibay the other day - i was unable to format it from there, even though it showed.

there was a lot of problems with SATA III exactly on early-2011 mbp's. I have one and got it.
But there was firmware update that cured everything.
Still HD bay is say more recommended for sata III fast device.
Where to get & how to install the firmware update?

Hmmmm, I've done the SMC update with no problems. When I open the "EFI-firmware" I get "This software is not supported by the system" - I'm sure I've chosen the right download!
recheck twice. Check what EFI version you already have (as shown in support page), compare with version you trying to install - is it really newer?
The EFI and SMC numbers on the system report are the same as the ones on the firmware download page.
But why is my SATA-III disk not working in the optibay then? It should be backwardscompatible anyways, i guess.
there are some sata outlet converter in optibay. Probably somewhere there contacts are just not good enough for SATA III speed. Why don't you set it into HD bay?

It's because I broke the SATA cable to the HDD bay.
I've ordered a new cable, but I'd like to use the SSD untill then, if it was possible.
Guess I'll have to wait it out, and cross my fingers that the new SATA cable works.
