How to create static IP address?? (Mac OS X Power PC G4)

Hello all,

I'm just wondering how to create a static IP address for my computer, I'm connected through a wireless network (using Airport) along with 3 other people in my house. The IP address assigned to me by my router is: 192.168.2.2, and my 'actual/external' IP address, as I understand, changes everytime I connect to the internet.

I'd like to create a static IP address with the hope that this will speed up my downloads (?), can anybody help me?

Kind regards,

Adam

To give your mac a static ip address.

login to your router http://192.168.2.1 from that IP I guess its a belkin router.

Once inside the router's config pages find the section that show the dhcp pool. Change the pool to 50-255.

Then you can goto your mac's network preferences select airport -> tcp/ip

change it from 'dhcp' to manual

then enter

ip 192.168.2.2
subnet 255.255.2550
router 192.168.2.1
dns 192.168.2.1

Now your WAN ip your external IP address is governed by your isp. They may upgrade you to a static ip for a fee, otherwise you can use a dyndns domain/client.

Your connection speed and the bandwidth (also out of your control) determine the speed of your downloads. A static IP address will not make your downloads any faster.

A static local IP however can make the OP's downloads faster if using torrents. If he assigns a static ip to his Mac. This way he could setup NAT rules. A Torrent dowload is way faster if you have your NAT setup correctly. The faster you upload the faster you download.
