They are in the Music app. You can tap Music > Audiobooks across the bottom, or More then Audiobooks if you don't see it.
Under my music app, I have
Playlists
Artists
Songs
Albums
and More (which has compilations, composers and genres).
No audiobooks anywhere
The "Audiobooks" category only appears in the music app if you actually have an audiobook on the device. I just tested it.
Did you purchase the audiobooks from the iTunes Store?
You can try testing with one of the free audiobooks on iTunes, like the SuperFreakonomics (Excerpt).
I'm having the same problem! It's so frustrating especially as now when I try to sync my ipad or iPhone to the iTunes with the audiobook saved to it gives me the option of restore from back up or start from scratch. Another example of apple neglecting important stuff for the user! If any one can help with my issue I would be great full as apple won't
None of the suggestions work. I bought a book on the store this morning and it does not show up on my phone. And like BDM86 the audiobooks are not listed. Any more ideas?
I also am totally clueless. I have gotten books from a public library and have put them into itunes using Overdrive. In itunes on my computer I can see them as well as listen to them, but they do not appear on my phone anywhere. If I try to download them to my phone the Overdrive instructions tell me I have to do it over itunes. How do I get the books from itunes onto the iphone?
Overdrive audio books are a completely different animal. Follow the instructions from overdrive.
I had the same problem and solved it in the following way.
Open ITunes on your computer and select one of the audio books you want to transfer and try and play it.
At this point I received the message that the computer was not authorised to play the Audio books and that I needed to sign in to Audible.
I filled in my Audible details on the popup that came up from apple and synced the iPhone - this time it worked. The Audio books were back at their old location under music, more.
In iTunes click on your device (Devices section)
select "Books"
enable "Sync Audiobooks"
Sync your device.
On your device go to the Audio app and go to the "... More" tab.
You will find the Audiobooks entry there.
I hope this helps.
Thanks Andreas! You were 100% right and my audiobooks are now synced. Nice to see some good correct information when you look for it. Thank You
I have this problem also. I have an Audible app that works fine. But I have other audiobooks in my iTunes. I can easily put them on my iPod. But when I sync my iPhone, only eBooks are listed - the audiobooks just do not show up and I don't know how to get them on the iPhone 5. HELP
Thanks, Oscar! I was going crazy trying to figure out what had happened when I updated to iOS 7. I am so relieved to finally found someone who could help!
Wow, that really helped!! I have spent the past 2 hours on the phone with Apple Support to try and find out why my audio book, bought on my MAcbook air didn't come through on my iMac. Finally she found out that audio books can only be downloaded once!! Even the Apple people didn't know that.
Then I tried to sync my phone and ran into all sort of problems until I read your solution. Thanks so much, thought I was going crazy!
HI Andreas,
Many thanks for your post. Rather than have to download yet another app I'm now able to listen to my audiobooks via my iPod Music app. Much appreciated.
Maria.
