I have created a new project in Final Cut Express 4 and imported a file. The file shows up in the Browser and the Viewer but there is no Canvas nor Timeline. Window/Arrange/Standard does not make them visable. How do I make the Canvas and Timeline appear?

Either go to the menu File > New > Sequence to create a new sequence, or if you have an existing one you are working on, double click the icon for the that sequence in the FCE browser.

The problem seems to be not knowing the difference between a sequence, a file, a bin, etc. in the Brouser But thanks. With your prompt, I was able to get acess to the Canvas and Timeline.
FCE jargon explained:
A Sequence is what is displayed in the Timeline. In the Browser it is identified by a pink and blue icon and Sequence in the name.
Files are individual items in the Browser such as video clips, audio, or still images.
Bins are basically what everyone else calls Folders.
