iPhone 5/iOS6 : WiFi unquiescing requested by "locationd"

Is anyone else seeing this error in their iPhone 5 logs?

wifid[14] <Error>: WiFi:[372219579.397266]: WiFi unquiescing requested by "locationd"

You can check by plugging in your iPhone into your mac and opening Xcode's Organizer. On the left, you should see your device listed. Click the "console" item beneath it.

My iPhone 5 is reporting these several times per minute. It's not just this phone either. I'm on my second iPhone 5 handset (had it replaced by Apple Care) and both of them report these errors very frequently. I even checked right after having completed a clean DFU reset without restoring a backup.

Is this a bug? Could this be impacting battery performance? Is anyone else observing this?

Here are more logs hinting that location services is misbehaving:

Do you have concerns over your battery life? Does your iPhone burn through 15% of battery in 1h of continuous surfing and email over 3G?

That's my main concern at the moment. I commute on the bus for 1h each way every day and I can watch the battery percentage go down. If I extend that 15%/h, it means only 4h of 3G usage which is half of the advertised 8h of 3G or LTE. Even the iLounge review posted battery battery life in their real world review.

Also interesting to note is I tried disabling location services (actually I never turned it on from the new device setup) and I'm still getting that error several times per minute. Why is the location services daemon running if location services is turned off?

I'lll try to escalate this with apple care to try and get an answer from an engineer. I'll post back any info I get here.

yeah much apreciated i've just done the same and disabled location (also for the first time) and I'm still getting the same error (even with wifi and location off)

Dose not seem right that ,like you say the daemon is still running

For feferance i have a iphone 5 GSM (UK) model A1429 ios ver 10a405

Checked ipad for ref (ipad Wifi + 4g lte/gsm) ios 5.1.1 error not seen was watching the log for about an hour and no sign of the error

So I drank some coffee and tried my hand at some real math. 15%/h extends to 6.7h of 3G usage (not 4h). With iLounge's discovery that battery is less than expected on weak signals, that might explain the (now smaller) difference in expected life. Since that hour is on a bus, I'm sure I hop between towers an my signal strength will fluctuate. Maybe iOS 6.0.1 will have improvements to make weak signals less strenuous on the battery.

I have done other experiment that saw 5% evaporate in 7 minutes. (I have before and after screenshots). This would exhaust my battery in 2.3h but it might be too short of a timeframe to extrapolate from.

Thanks for the info, I did a restore last night, set up as a new iphone abd when on first setup screen (Grey welcome to iphone) before any settings or wifi passwords were put in I used a debug tool called iTools and was sitll getting the same error, So I'm thinking it cant be and settings or configurations, I must be an ios 6 issue, that may get fixed with 6.0.1. But I would lie to hear what apple care say about it as like you say It's happening several times per minute

I finally got back to apple care about this issue. They decided that I should try my luck with a third iPhone 5. So I'm now on my third unit with the same errors and the same battery performance.

I hope now they can finally agree that it's not a hardware problem.

I also updated to iOS 6.0.1 which is still issuing the same wifi/locationd error as often as 3 times per minute.

I was told that this issue was escalated to an engineering team to take a closer look.

Maybe it's a carrier issue? I'm on Rogers in Canada.

Same error

The error is still present with iOS 6.0.2:
