Is there a way to make finder remember the preferred viewing type?

It is really annoying when i open finder up and find that it is in the viewing mode that i hate such as list or something. I then have to adjust the settings everytime i open finder up. Is there any way i can set a default view for when the finder opens?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Set the window for your desired view. Press COMMAND-J where you can set other options including to always open in a given view and to make that view the default. View options must be set on all windows individually. There is no global view option.
