Lost user folder in /Users

I am unable to see my user account in the /Users directory through FInder. However, when I look in terminal cd /Users and list the files using ls I am able to see my user folder there. Attempted some solutions from an archived thread from the Apple Support Communities that consisted of the command chflags nohidden ~ but was given an invalid command error.

The machine is running 10.7.5.

Here is the thread if anyone needs it: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1529752?answerId=7238233022#7238233022&searchText=missing%20home%20direct ory%20from%20/Users#7238233

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
