For the record, I've submitted my feedback. Hopefully this will be something they will change in the near future. It is annoying as ever.

They have certainly made other changes in the UI that were most likely the result of user requests. Ones I can think of:

  • Making the side switch function of iPads user selectable
  • Making it possible to turn off both Voice Control and Siri
  • A change in the way the mini player in iTunes worked (a while back but it cause a great kerfuffle at the time)

So, you never know. However, this particular issue doesn't seem to be generating a whole lot of noise so, if I were you, I wouldn't hold my breath.

It is stupid for them to assume that everyone finds this feature useful and then not provide an option for it to be turned off. If the feature is provided to turn off keyboard click sounds, obviously they felt that was useful for those who didn't want to hear keyboard click sounds for every action. How this useful option and logic bypassed the dialing sounds is beyond me. At the end of the day, I don't care if all other models have this feature permanently on, it is stupid and they should take into account those who despise it, such as me. I like to use my phone is complete silence, including when dialing. Period.

This thread is from 2013 as far as I can tell. I'm pretty sure lots of people have brought this to Apple's attention. In one thread, a person said they called Apple Support when they couldn't find the answer here. If people are still talking about this, a few dozen updates later, then that means Apple doesn't give a **** and sending them more feedback will fall on deaf ears. Hence why people are here "ranting".

What you seem to be saying is that because no one, it makes sense to keep talking. Apple isn't listening here. Apple does read all feedback submissions. Neither you nor I know why Apple has not chosen to act on the submissions.

It's rather trivial to flip the mute switch while you dial. That will silence all keypad sounds, including the ones while you dial.

It is trivial to you. You want to flip the switch every time. Or don't mind doing it every time. Speak for you, not for me. I wouldn't want to constantly flip a switch to turn off keyboard sounds, I don't want to constantly have to do it for dialing. Adding an option that allows me to turn off the dialing sound should be available for those who are not like YOU and whose usage is not like yours. I'm confounded as to why some folks wish to decide for others what should be trivial to them. I want to hear when a call comes in, but I don't want to hear noise when I'm dialing and I want that option to be something I can turn off permanently because to do it each time I dial is NOT what I want to do.

I think you mean the telephone-like dialing sounds that you would hear from a land line. You can only turn those off using the "Mute" button -- the slider near your volume up-down buttons on the left side of the iPhone. Slide the mute button back and you've done it.

But if you mean keyboard clicks, those can be turned off. Go to Settings > Sounds > Keyboard clicks and set it to "Off".
