cyradm cannot connect to localhost

I have a very strange problem with my Mac OS X Server 10.4.6 mail installation. I can send and receive mail on user accounts, ssl works, and there are no interruptions to the mail service.

I encountered a problem when I tried to use cyradm to delete a mailbox. I edited the files in /etc/imapd.conf to read:

admins: cyrusimap, myname

I try to connect to the mail service on the local machine as follows:

this-is-my-IP:/usr/bin/cyrus/admin root# ./cyradm
cyradm> connect localhost
server: localhost: cannot connect to server

I have scoured google for help but I have found nothing. Also, there seems to be nothing in Apple's support forums about this exact topic. The only odd thing I can think of that might change the configuration would be an MX record in my DNS setup, because I use my mail server as a DNS slave instead of a master. This should not cause problems, but I'm not totally sure.

The authentication to my mail server is CRAM-MD5 only.

If anyone has any idea about what is happening (it seems like the mail daemon is not even getting called by cyradm) please help out. Thanks!

Ok, here is what I tried:

my-IP-Addre-ss:/usr/bin/cyrus/admin myname$ sudo -u myname ./cyradm localhost
cyradm: cannot connect to server
my-IP-Addre-ss:/usr/bin/cyrus/admin myname$ sudo -s
Password:
my-IP-Addre-ss:/usr/bin/cyrus/admin root# su myname
my-IP-Addre-ss:/usr/bin/cyrus/admin myname$ ./cyradm localhost
cyradm: cannot connect to server

Also tried:
sudo -u cyrusimap ./cyradm localhost
cyradm: cannot connect to server

I tried this several different ways, but nothing seems to work. Any more ideas?
