I recently installed Windows 7 Professional 32bits on my Macbook Pro using Boot camp. My macbook comes with 8gb RAM. However i just noticed that only 2.20gb of this is usable by Windows. Can anyone educate me why this is so and how i can increase it?

Windows 32 bit can not address more than about 3.5 GB of RAM. In order to use all your 8GB of RAM you will need to remove the 32 bit Windows and install Windows 7 64 bit.

thanks Bob. But why is my installation having 2.20 as usable instead of the 3.5GB? Thats my puzzle. How can i make it have 3.5GB RAM as usable. Will appreciate it if you can guide me on how to achieve this.
Because some is reserved for graphics and other system needs.

It is pure Windows question, not bound to Mac as platform - so better search for details on appropriate forums

What are you talking about? 32 bit Windows can only address about 3.5GB of memory, regardless of hardware platform. Do the math 2^32 vs 2^64. Some more info http://www.w7forums.com/windows-7-64-bit-vs-32-bit-t484.html
mostly about this table and registry settings and patches that should be made for applications access more then 2 GB per item. Sorry my non-clear english
That table confirms a physical memory limit for Windows 7 32 bit to be 4GB http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa366778%28v=vs.85%29.as px#physical_memory_limits_windows_7. If you are running Windows 7 32 bit on x86 processors that limit is increased by using Physical Addres Extension (PAE). But we are not talikng about x86 processors here.

The appropriate action is to install 64bit Windows, not permanently restrict the installation to less than half of the currently available Ram!!

adn I meant 1-st row of first table, User-mode virtual address space for each 32-bit process. No sence it multi-Gb memory if applications can't use it over 2 Gb

probably he already bought some 32 bit windows and don't want to pay again - I think otherwise he wouldn't want to achieve 3.5 Gb... And probably I'm bored...
Thanks guys for your contributions. My research shows that the 2.20 GB usable is because of the vidoe graphics. Now as per installing 64bits. My problem is i dont i have lots of 32bits softwares i paid for which i wont be able to use if i install 64bits. Also, i dont want to buy 64bits Microsoft office since i already have 32bit Microsoft office. My windows 7 installation discs include 64bits i might as well go ahead but for the above.
