Well, the iPod display shows nothing, which is probably a bad start. The computer first shows Windows trying to find & install the correct driver for the device. It searches for the driver for a while, then can't find it. Then it says that Windows cannot recognize the new hardware. iTunes does not recognize the iPod, either. Like I said earlier, I checked the Windows Compatability Center to see if they had a driver for the 7G that I could download but it is not available. They had a feature where you could suggest hardware/software that is not compatabile so I did that for the 7G.
