Lost access to HP6310 aio printer, can't add back as bonjour printer

I suddenly lost access to my networked printer. After rebooting the network (router, printer, MBPro on Mt. Lion), I still couldn't print. So I thought I'd delete the printer, then add it back. But the printer no longer shows up in the list of printers in System Prefs. I was able to add it by IP but I've lost some functionality, specifically I can no longer use the scan function wirelessly. I should note that the 2 other laptops in the house (MB on Snow Leopard, and MBPro on Lion) never lost access, and a look at System Prefs>Printers>Add shows that they can still see the bonjour printer. Not sure if it's relevant but I can no longer access the printer via the local webpage hp#####.local, but I can view it by IP.

I have a workable solution, but would like to get back to full functionality. Any suggestions?

Hi,

It seems as the Bonjour connection getting dropps over the local network..

Try resetoring the networjk defaults of the printer to ensure that Bonjour didn't become disabled somehow..

That can be done by clicking Setup > Network > Restore Network Defautls from the printer front panel.

Ensure that Bonjour is running on your Mac, that can be done by going to Utilities > Activity Monitor and ensure the mDNSResponder process is running..

in case the process is stopped, run the following command on Terminal to start the process:

sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist

If there is no change, did you made any chnges to your router lately? updated it firmware, etc?

What is your router brand and model?

Hope that helps, otherwise please clarify the required information to try any further suggestions,

Thanks for the suggestions, Shlomi.

I was pretty sure it wasn't the printer because the other two laptops see it as a bonjour printer in the "add printer" list. But I restored network defaults anyway, and no change.

I checked the activity monitor to confirm that dmDNSResponder is running; it is. I can see the second bonjour printer on the network.

I haven't made any changes to my router, a Verizon Actiontec MI424WR, firmware 20.19.8. I have automatic updates disabled, but I just manually checked from the router to see if there is an update; my status is OK.

Thanks for clarifying, somehow missed the fact that the two other computers are also a Macs.. 🙂

Make sure to restart the MAc and check if that may help.

Additionally try disabling the firewall and check for any change

If it turned on I would also check it preferences to confirm it not configured to block all incoming connections..

The firewall settings can be found under System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall.

Also try disabling any other security software in case you have a such installed..

If the steps above make no change, try resetting the printing system, re-add the printers and check if that may help:

Hope that helps,

Thought I should update here. I recently determined that the issue is related to wireless. My MBPro connects to the network via wireless from a Verizon Actiontec router (to which the printer is directly connected). The other two laptops connect via wireless from a bridged Airport Extreme. If I connect via the Airport wireless, I can see and use all the functions of the HP6310. I'm hoping to get Verizon to replace the modem/router. I've had other Bonjour issues with Actiontec equipment.
