I can't find "Java Preferences" to enable applets

I recently had a new Java update installed, and now some of my online games can't be played because I need to enable Java Applets. I knew where to find Java Preferences before, but it is no longer in with the Unitilies. Is there another way to enable Java Applets now?

The link: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572 states that they have removed the Java Preferences because it is supposedly unneccessary . . . well, it is needed for Firefox.

I was trying to play games on Pogo.com but in Firefox it tells me that I need to fix something with Java, but in Safari, everything is fine. Personally, I prefer Firefox, but the new Java update messed up my games.

The link also includes instructions to go to Oracle and download it directly. Javascript is needed for browsers, Java Runtime is not unless a website demands it. Do you have Javascript enabled in FF Preferences:

When I click on Java Preferences, I get this dialog (because I chose not to install it):

User uploaded file

I believe that is what was probably removed; you will need to get it directly from the developer if you need it for particular applications. As mentioned, browsers require Javascript and I'm not aware that Apple removed it.

I don't even get that second pop-up . . . "Java Preferences" is nowhere on my computer . . . I've been looking for almost 4 hours.

I need to enable applets somehow and this new Java is not letting me do it in Firefox. Safari is still working just fine because it has an "Enable Applets" box to check in it's own preferences. Maybe Firefox is the problem, I'm not sure anymore :-s

So which applications need the Jave? As I said, it's not the browser itself, they just need the Javascript. So, there are a couple of ways to go about it - first possibility is that you use Safari for the website(s) that require Java since it is working there. And/or you contact Oracle and/or Mozilla (Firefox) support and see what can be done about Firefox.
