How do I pair a mac remote through USB IrDA with macbook air 2012

I have a macbook air 2012, and I purchased an external USB IrDA receiver so that I can pair my mac remote with my laptop.

As you can see in this screenshot, the IrDA device appears to be functioning and recognized by the macbook air:

But, when I follow the instructions to pair (holding down the two buttons on the remote for 5-10s), it never does anything.

What do I need to do to get my remote paired with my macbook air?

MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Actually it says the device has not been configured.

Did the manufacturer of the device provide a driver that works with Mountain Lion?

The vendor site I bought the device from clearly says it should just work on mac without a driver. The device came with a CD, but the macbook air does not have a CD drive, and moreover, all the searching I can do for mac drivers say that none exist, so I doubt that any exist on this CD. Am I just dead in the water?

Look at the CD with a computer that has a CD drive.

If the driver is there copy it to a USB drive and transfer it to the MBA.
