where do I find the safari app on my Apple TV
The sales person said that the Apple TV also has a web browser - Safari, but I don't see that app or where to add it. Please help

I am afraid you don't. You can mirror your device or Mac but apple TV itself is not supporting a web browser. It does have some apps such as WSJ and MLB TV but not general surfing. Mirroring works fine if you have it, if not check a third party app called airparrot for Mac or PC.
