How can I update my iPhone 4 to version 6.0 without losing all my stuff?

When I try to update my phone it will start to back up but half way through it comes up with a message saying an error occured while backing up iPhone (-50) if you continue it will result in loss of contents on iPhone.

actually, I have read:

Error 13, 14, 35 and 50 (or -50)

hi there,

If I remember correctly, you are asked by the uninstallation routine, whether you want to delete your iTunes library when uninstalling.

See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 for a detailed set of instructions for reinstalling iTunes on Windows 7
