No, it does not remove Java. It removes the Java applet plug-in from Safari. If you are using Java apps, you can continue to use them after the update, so long as they are compatible with the new version of Java. (Some apps have turned out not to be.)

However, if you need to use Java applets embedded in web sites, you need to download a new Java applet plug-in from Oracle. You can do so by simply clicking the "Missing plug-in" box in Safari, or you could just go get Java 7 from Oracle. Be aware that using Java applets on web pages is a HUGE security risk. See Using Java in Mac OS X.

Would you recommend installing the JRE Or the SDK of 7up9 ? What did you do?

I did neither. With the constant flow of security vulnerabilities from Java, I have chosen to avoid it completely.

However, if I were going to install Java, I would go here:

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html

Then click the Download button in the JRE column under "Java Platform, Standard Edition." (I don't know why Oracle has to make that page so confusing. They act as if everyone is a Java developer and don't seem to understand the average user.)

The JDK includes all the development tools for writing Java apps, which the average user does not want or need.
