My iPad keeps crashing...

That sounds strange. I read that there is no point closing apps down as they take no memory. They are effectively already closed and restored by loading their state. Guess I can't believe anything I read these days.

Mine crashes too especially on news sites such as the Telegraph. Thats after clearing Safari cache twice, one time doesnt seem to work for some reason, even with safari closed down and not in "memory".

Certain websites crash every time for me with no apps running. Smells like bugs to me.

I know it's only an ipad and not a computer but I don't get these problems with Windows edge browser.

One thing I would try is close apps running in the background that hog memory. Most people don't know about this. Go to the home screen and double tap the home button to bring up the bottom. All of those apps at the bottom are running in the background. Hold your finger down on one till the minus signs appear. Hit the minus on all of them. Then retry.

I had my moms ipad when I was over there about a month ago and a app crashed on me. I did the above and she probably has never minused out of a program since she bought it. She had like 45 apps open and running. :) hogs memory.

This helped me, I did not know this and I have had mine for 2 years. I just tried this and I had 275 apps open! This crashing started yesterday

Have origianl IPAD. Been to Apple Store several times for this same problem. All apps are closed and still have problem with IPAD crashing. Has anyone received help from Apple other then it may be time to upgrad?

If I buy another tablet it will not be an IPAD. Support is none existent if your model is out of date

The best suggestion i can give is to hold both the wake/sleep button (the one on the top) and the home button (witch is the circle button on the front surface) togethor until the screen goes blank. An option will come to shut down the iPad, ignore that and keep holding the to buttons, as i said until the screen goes blank. After the screen goes blank let go of the buttons and after a couple seconds press the wake/sleep button. Your broblem should be solved.

I have an Original iPad running iOS 5.1.1

One app kept crashing randomly.

Then all started crashing.

Before doing a factory restore I attempted this.

I am coming out with a more stable and more responsive iPad!

Shut down iCloud and all that is new with the latest updates, IPAD 1 can't handle the new services that come with them as it only has a small amount of RAM. If you want to use new services that are available with the new updates then get a new IPAD.

I have had crashing issues for a while and it is the only thing that works.

I am encountering LESS crashing after Hassan's suggestion. But I have come to the conclusion iOS 5.1.1 is UNSTABLE. I browse the web, CRASH. I have a game I like to play, CRASH (stable on iPhone 4 8Gig with iOS6)

I wonder if we can Cajole Apple into fixing this iOS 5 problem.

It is not the cloud or limited memory.
