Broken iPhone 4...trying to restore

My daughter abused the heck out of her iPhone. The screen in cracked beyond hope and it only works when plugged in to an electrical outlet. I had to replace it, but I'd like to get whatever I can out of the old one. I don't want to sell it for parts until it can be restored because it's full of photos and stuff. As I said, it will turn on when plugged in to a wall outlet, but if I connect it via USB to my computer, it won't do anything, not even power on. Any suggestions?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

You can backUp everything to iCloud. Just go to setting-> icloud->storage and backup-> back up now.

For your photos, go to photos-> photo stream and check whether all your photos are there. If your photos are there in photo stream, then you're lucky. you'd have to just restore your new phone to the latest back up (whenever you get it) .

Thank you for this suggestion. The phone had already been backed up. What I want to do is restore it. But since it remains "dead" when connected to my computer via USB, I can't restore it.

If the phone is broken and you have everything backed up, then why dont you get a new phone instead of restoring it?

Insetad of using computer to restore, you have another way to restore, just go to settings-> general-> reset-> erase all content and settings. This will do almost the same job.
