I have a mid 2009 MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4. I keep a folder on my desktop containing of all the works I done in college. I woke up this morning, trying to email a client my previous work. But the folder's gone!! All my school work disappeared! I tried using spotlight but I got no result. I went to pages, recent files, saw one of the file's name then I clicked on it but it won't open. Please help, I don't have it back up.

At the risk of sounding callous, why would you expect us to help you when you did nothing to help yourself? I presume that it's not in Trash, and that you haven't recently emptied the Trash, in which case the most likely scenario is that you unintentionally moved it in an inadvertent click and drag operation. However, in that case a Spotlight search should throw it up. It might be worth forcing Spotlight to re-index the volume:
I tried everything I knew or else I wouldn't be here looking for help. I never delete a single item over the past 2 month. The folder was always there. I just tried what you said, still couldn't find anything. It only shows the option to do a web search. I booked an appointment at my local apple store, hopefully they'll find it. Did you have a USB drive connected shortly before the folder disappeared? If so, could it have been inadvertently dragged to it? Spotlight would not pick it up if it was on an external volume.
Yes, I plugged a CF card reader and a monitor in yesterday at a photo-shoot. I did ejected the card reader properly. I just got back from the apple store, they keep saying I must randomly deleted the folder and gave me a number for data recovery. I told them I never touched the trash and ask them to check. They said there's no way to trace. Is there a way to check wether or not I used the delete function? I am willing to pay for data recovery If its my fault, but I never trash anything for the past two month. I get that the computer wont delete stuff on its own but i just don't Know where my folder went. If I can prove I didn't delete anything will they pay for date recovery or fix it? Have you looked on the CF card? Might have been inadvertently dragged there. Not sure how you would go about proving that you didn't delete anything, but even if you did I doubt they'd pay for data recovery. Proving you didn't delete it doesn't prove that there's a fault that they're responsible for.
