What is the recommended practice for charging iPhone 5?

I have read conflicting guidance about how to charge the iPhone 5 to best optimize battery life. Concrete guidance would be appreciated. Do I need to drain. It monthly? Should I avoid letting the battery get down to a certain level? Will charging it each night detract from performance?
