Q: is it a good idea to delete photo's from photo stream ?

Is it a good Idea to delete photos from photo stream after they are in photo library.?   I have an updated iphone and new macbook pro (mountain Lion). I have abandoned my old system of organising photos but am finding the various duplications confusing.
