skip when shuffling not working

I have all the songs in one playlist marked "Skip when shuffling" but they play anyway, no matter how many times I un-do and re-do it then re-sync my iPod.

Let me see if I can be clearer in my description of what's happening, sorry. 😊

I put a group of songs into a playlist titled with the genre of the songs. Then I highlighted all of the songs in that playlist and clicked on options. Checked off the box "Skip when shuffling" because those songs still appear in my library in general. This should enable me to play my library and those songs would automatically get skipped everytime (yes, my iPod is in Shuffle mode) but they don't. They do when playing from iTunes on my desktop but not on my iPod when in the dock. (Yes, I sync'd my iPod)

Yes, yes and yes. I am not new to iPods and the functioning of them. I have been using them since gen 1. I have three iPods, an iPad and iPhone and an iMac and this particular iPod is the only one (Grrrrrr...) with this issue. I know how it's supposed to work, what I'm saying is there is a glitch, it's not working properly and I wonder if anyone else is having/had the same problem, if they fixed it and how.

Thanks.

The problem appears to be constant for quite a few years.

Let me reiterate the issue as it occurs for me:

I have an iPhone 6 with the latest iOS installed and the latest version of iTunes. I have multiple albums and seasonal items available to play as whenever I wish, but I have many songs labeled as "skip when shuffling" for longer trips where I simply shuffle my entire library. This appears to make no differences as all songs currently in the library, even those labeled as 'skip', will play.

This was an issue with my iPhone 5, and is now an issue with my iPhone 6. This has been a problem with previous versions of iTunes. I have reset my phone, and even switched phones yet the displayed function does not appear to have any effect. I could set up a playlist, but with the displayed function I should not have to. Should it work? Did it ever work? Will it work in the future?

Hey Red00Knight,

here is a little history of my iPods and the topic "skip when shuffling"

First iPod touch was third gen with iOS 6 on it. It worked. Everything worked. And here comes the big issue, if you had a playlist with only "skip when shuffling" songs in it, the function was disabled and all the songs were shuffled correctly. That was the golden age of shuffling 😉

Unfortunately my screen broke, I upgraded to an iPod touch 5 with iOS 7 on it. Boy, this thing was buggy. Even used the warranty to get a new one, but it did not work. Do you want to see something scary?

The example from before, having a playlist and all tracks are checked with "sws". Hit shuffle once it showed 1 out of 1 song playing, hit shuffle again...

Get an iPod touch 5g with iOS 7 on it, this bug is still not fixed and would you think apple cares? 😉 Guess...

I still have the same iPod touch, iOS 8 newest update, newest version of iTunes, of course. The bug is still not fixed. Whenever I listen to "Shuffle all songs" I get the skits in the Albums I only listen to in entity.

I had contact to a member of the support and he admitted, that the engineers could recreate the bug I described. But no update for a month or so.

I had this problem too, and I believe I found the answer! You must access the playlist from "My Music" in iTunes and *not* from the summary of music and playlists on your iPod through iTunes. If it helps, don't even plug in your iPod while you're doing it, then you will know for sure you are doing it correctly. Without the iPod plugged in to your computer, open iTunes, highlight the entire playlist, right click and select "get info". Then go to "options" and check the "skip when shuffling" box. Click ok. *Now* plug in your iPod and sync. When I tried doing it from the iPod page it kept unchecking the box once I synced. This way the box stays checked and the songs don't play! 🙂 Hope this helps!
