final cut pro 7 works in mountain lion

Been in Snow Leopard for three years now.
I never upgrade anything during a project, but this is a 10 month project I am in and I have different hardware coming in that requires the use of Lion. I am therefore to migrate all to Lion or upgrade to it.
I have already used Lion for a while, just not on my editing station.
I never upgrade or update anything before backing it up. I also keep a periodic back up of my boot drive. While it has happened only twice in many years, if an upgrade or update proved to be a problem, I simply went back to my saved working boot drive. There is nothing faster than that.
I am now more inclined to upgrade than migrating, though still to Lion. Mountain Lion is too young to jump into it, but I have not yet killed that possibility.

I simply hope to hear from other FCP 7 users who might have migrated to Lion from Snow Leopard. Or Mountain Lion.

I'm a professional television editor and had to install Mountain Lion to run Avid 7. I have a MacPro Early 2008 running Snow Leopard. I edit using FCP 7.0.3. I first Copy Cloned my Main hard drive using Carbon Copy, just in case FCP7 did not run. Then I downloaded the Mountain Lion App, installed, and every thing works fine with no issues, especially FCP 7. Good Luck!

Hey all! I've been working in OS X10.7 with an old Cheese grater just bought a new 2012 MAC PRO cheese grater running OS X 10.8 I'm getting the same messages as Miranda and FCP7 quits and has become unstable.

I have been told that Final Cut 7 requires Rosetta to run the installers. If I make a disk image of all of the installers, will I then be able to install on a fresh copy of Mountain Lion or Mavericks while running on the newer system ( without Rosetta )?

If I have to boot from an external drive running Snow Leopard to get the Rosetta, how do I get all of my libraries, etc to install on the Mountain Lion disk and not the disk I'm booting from. Have been told that if I try to boot from the external, the app will go where I want, but the libraries go on the currently used boot drive ( Snow Leopard in this example )

Sorry for the confusion, but the more people I speak with at Apple, the more my head wants to explode. From the sounds of it, some of you have actually done this successfully, and aren't speaking "theoretically"... while trying to force me into accepting X

FCP6 requires Rosetta. Not FCP 7. Recently installed it on Mavericks without any issues (as far as the installers go).

Thank you for that confirmation about installing FCP 7 in Mavericks, Michael.

Others have also been diseminating the misinformation that FCP 7 won't install in Mavericks, and I now have a link to point to for correction.

PS: Michael, Have you tried using FCP 6 in Mavericks, aside from its installation problems (or your many minions for whom you have assisted in installing FCP 6 in Lion and Mt Lion updated to Mavericks)?

Nope. And I don't think any of my "minions" have upgraded to Mavericks from Mountain Lion. At least not with my knowledge.

Please post when you have some substantial news about Mavericks and FCP6 (FCS2).

PS: According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, minion is defined as

someone who is not powerful or important and who obeys the orders of a powerful leader or boss

The Tech online dictionary defines it as:

Someone who attempts to install Rosetta into Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks in the mistaken belief that it will solve their FCS2 installation problems without causing more problems down the road

Just curious. Have a new MBP 13", and have been trying to use disk images to install FCS 3. Have used this installation method a number of times. It worked on my Mac Pro with Lion, but can't finish it in Mountain Lion. It gets to "Audio Content 1", and doesn't find it. Waited 30 minutes. Have everything on the desktop, and after the initial install, the other images aren't found. Will use discs, but would still like to figure out the problem. Wondering if anyone else has had problems using Disk Images in Mountain Lion for installation

it's not a mountain lion problem per se, as I installed fcp7 on it with disk images without any issues.

It's not. In the past, I had been able to simply mount the dmg on my desktop, WITHOUT having to open the image. I remembered many saying they had to open all dmgs first. Tried that and it worked. Thanks. Though someone told me, you have to open the dmgs first, I didn't. Once that was done, it installed in less than 15 minutes(SSD:-).

Final Cut Pro 7 is an End Of Life product

Although Apple upgraded Final Cut Pro 7 to work with Mountain Lion, Apple has discontinued Final Cut Pro 7 and replaced the product with Final Cut Pro X. The new NLE from Apple is quickly becoming a valuable and cost-effective tool for the professional editor. Apple is listening to its user base and making significant upgrades. Expect more improvements to the product in the not too distant future.
