MIDI stuck notes, please help

Hi Everyone,

Iv got a MIDI controller keyboard which is connected to the MIDI input of a FCB1010 (MIDI controller pedal), the FCB1010 is then connect from the MIDI thru of the FCB1010 to the MIDI input of a DIGI 002. The 002 is then connect to my computer.

On the controller keyboard i have assigned it to play sounds in EXS24 on MIDI channel 2. Then i have the FCB1010 triggering samples in EXS24 on channel 1.

The problem that i am having is that when playing the controller keyboard and triggering samples with the FCB1010 at the same time, i occasionally experience MIDI stuck notes on the keyboard.

I have made sure that the FCB1010 is only transmitting MIDI note on and MIDI note off.

Have no idea what the problem could be.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Couple of things...

You said that you have connected the MIDI thru of the FCB to the input of your DIGI 002. How is it then that you're able to get MIDI from the FCB to your DIGI 002 at all? Normally, if you have a MIDI thru port on a device, the only data the thru port carries is a "mirror" of the data coming into the device (in that case it would be the FCB).

That mystery aside 🙂 I think I know what's going on here, but I need more information:

1) Are you using one or two EXS instruments to do this?

2) Are you trying to trigger two different sounds in this scenario, i.e., the sound triggered by your FCB is totally different from the sound played on your keyboard?

With this info I might be able to help you out. Look forward to your reply.

if your Digi002 is the mixer version, there is a good chance that it transmits fader info on midi channel 1.. this would cause a midi hiccup if both units are sending info ast the same time on the same channel... this may effect transmission on other midi channels as well. Try using channels 3&5 for notation to separate them a little more.

Also try using the "audio midi setup" in your utilities folder, and configure your midi devices there. This may help resolve some issues as well.

OK.

a) What are the ranges of the notes?

b) Are there specific notes which give you a problem? Or is the choice of notes which get stuck totally random?

c) Also, I take it that you have two tracks in your Arrange window that are in record simultaneously, one track per EXS instrument. Can you confirm? Or are you getting MIDI to your EXS's in some other way?
