Ok, strange issue. I got and email from someone marked as a VIP on my iPhone (5, iOS 6).
The message appears in he VIP folder, but not the inbox.
On my other devices (iPad (3rd gen) on iOS 6 and iMac with 10.8.2) it is no where to be found. Any thoughts?

Ok, I triple checked everything and it was me. For some reason, my wife sent the email from our iMac, and icloud outbound mail failed, and she picked the next one, which was my gmail, which also happens to be disabled on the iMac, but not deleted.
Problem solved.
