Q: where is the compatibile mode

I downloaded the os5 updates. I tried to open my Itunes but a message came up to turn off compatibile mode. I don't know where it is. Please let me know where to go to adjust the mode.

Try the following document, only be sure that none of the boxes in the compatibility tab are checked (not just the compatibility mode box itself):
