Mac OS XI don't know about in Canada, but in the US we have something named the Apple Flat Rate Repair Pricing.
Its worth checking into - about $350 or so to get you up and running.

Mac OS XIf you've a 2008 model with the video card problem, then it looks as if the repair should be free.
Do you have, in fact, a 2008 model with the specified video card? Or do you have another model that is just having those display issues? If the latter, then you're going to have to pay to get it fixed.

Apple will continue to evaluate the repair data and will provide further repair extensions as needed.
And a number of folks have found sympathetic managers and had the 2008 logic boards replaced, even after four years.
