Videos not playing in Safari

Hi there,

I have a fairly old MacBook which has been working great until today. I finally updated the Java update through Software Update and now when I play a video in Safari (Youtube, Vimeo, other video sites) it slows down the video, appears choppy, and slows down Safari. I'm not sure if it was the Java update or not, but that's the only change to my system prior to this issue occuring.

Has anyone else had this issue? If so, were you able to fix the issue?
