Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Error 3194 <-- yeah, fix that.

I downloaded ios6 onto my ipod not realising how bad it was going to be. I have tried all last night to restore 5.1.1 but both times I downloaded it (I even downloaded it off iTunes the second time!!!) it came up with a message that contained "error 3194". I know Apple have a really bad reputation for dealing with customers after purchase, and I know whichever apple employee is reading this is thinking "I don't care" but I seriously don't have the money to buy a new iPod and having one with ios6 is useless... PLEASE FIX ERROR 3194!

iPod touch (4th generation), iOS 6, I want ios 5.1.1 back

This has nothing to do with Apple.

Your computer is blocking the connection to the server, so you must fix it.

Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com

Error 1004, 1013, 1638, 3194: These errors may be the result of the connection to gs.apple.com being redirected or blocked. Follow these steps to resolve these errors:

  1. Install the latest version of iTunes.
  2. Check security software. Ensure that communication to gs.apple.com is allowed. Follow this article for assistance with security software. iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.
  3. Check the hosts file. The restore will fail if there is an active entry to redirect gs.apple.com. Follow iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting to edit the hosts file or revert to a default hosts file. See section "Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows) > Rebuild network information".
  4. Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
  5. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.

Forget that. Once you install a firmware upgrade, you cannot restore an earlier firmware version.

iTunes 7 is very old. You will not fix your problem unless you update it to the latest version for your OS. That might be iTunes 10.7 or 10.6.3.

Latest version: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Earlier versions:

iTunes 10.6.3 for Mac

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1575

iTunes 10.6.3 for Windows (64 bit)

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1427

Error 3194 <-- yeah, fix that.
