Q: Airport frequently shutdowns in G5 Quad

Hello everybody

I have an intermittent problem wich I want to solve forever. It is really a pain in the ...

I bought a G5Quad 2,5 a bit more than a year ago. It still is in excellent condition. But it has a little problem: the Airport

I use a Belkin router which serves the wireless for the house. There is a lot of gadgets that connects perfectly to the network including iphones, ipod touch, or even an G4 eMac; None of those machines has any problem

The Quad, sometimes, get disconnected of the wireless network, and then **** raises: you can connect it back shutting down the airport and turning in back on, but connection is active only for a minute and goes down again. You can repeat it on, and on, and on, or shut down the computer and turn it back on: no changes...

Some days, (like today) the Quad has no problem, full signal icon, perfect navigation...

I´ve been looking for a solution, and many people looks to have the same problem, but no solution has been posted yet, and I were been looking for it, believe me

If anyone has clues, please, reply. I really have faith in this forum. You guys helped me many times

Thank you

PowerMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8), G5 2,5 Quad

Hmmm, tough to tell exactly what is going on.

    Is the signal dropping completely?

Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712

    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.

The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.

Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations.

Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.

For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

    208.67.222.222

    208.67.220.220

    Click OK.

    Also, turn off IPv6:

    System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6

    Or whatever Interface you use.

    Thanks for your reply, BDAqua

I applied the changes to the DNS and turned off IPv6. I cannot finish creating a new location because when I join the network as "join other network" it jumps back to "automatic"

As I said you yesterday, it is working OK by now, but I applied your changes

In addition, this time the problem came along the low batteries in the magic mouse, and the PM was continously disconnecting from the mouse. As the airport card in the Quad comes with Bluetooth too, do you think it can be caused for it?

I´ll be watching this week the behavior of the computer, to mark your reply as helpful and solving

I am SOOOOOO grateful to you, man

    More news soon

I wouldn't discount the possibility of a physical connection problem. The pins of the runway card or the connector on the module may be dirty, lose or misaligned.

Vibration could cause loss of service.

The pins of the runway card could be cleaned.

Reseat of the assembly would insure the proper installation.

As well, the antenna connectors are delicate and could be an issue.

Ok. Here is the problem again. It is really a pain

Today I am working with the web and I need it

I can say it's not a problem with the Bluetooth. The mouse works perfect, no connection issues. But the airport works two minutes and falls

    Any idea?

It´s been a long time since the last post in this thread. Any changes in the breakdown with an EXCEPTION

There is a conflict with the bluetooth and the airport. I mean:

I usually use a magic mouse (bluetooth) and a wacom (usb wired coonection) tablet. Lately, the problem is continous, no way to use the internet, so I tried to turn it the bluetooth off and use the stylus on the tablet (very uncomfortable, I just use it for drawing) and... Voila! NO PROBLEM! anyway! anytime!

So here is the point where I need your help: The breakdown clearly is a conflict between the bluetooth and the airport that, as you know, are in the same card in the Quads

Is there something that I could make with the config, channels...?

    Thanks to everyone

Hi again, I'd disable Airport & use one of these, far better Range & speed than Apple's card anyway...

Thanks for your reply. I already tried this, but I recognize I didn't do it seriously, maybe because I felt lost and crazy. I will put myself on it and tell you the results
