You can use Migration Assistant but will need to connect the two Macs with a FireWire cable. Purchase an appropriate adapter first.

Although the above information specifies Lion, it is applicable to your MBP running Mountain Lion.
Migration Assistant does not work from OSX 10.4.11 to OSX 10.8.x, even though Apple claims that it does. You aren't doing anything wrong. The fault is in the application.

Same result here, 10.4 on a G4 Mac Mini to an iMac running Mountain Lion. Migration Assistant didn't reccognize the Mini mounted in Target Disk mode.
