iPod touch, Mac OS X (10.5.8), new touch, older imac
You need OSX 10.6.8 for your Mac. That is a paid upgrade. However, you may still be able to sync wither the new iPod. See:

However, that works with iOS 6 on the 4G iPod and may not work with the 5G.
OSX 10.6.8 requires an Intel Mac and you have call to order it from the app store. It is not listed in the on-line Apple store,
