"Error reading setup initialization file", and invalid path..

Recently iTunes forced me to upgrade. So I downloaded the new version and uninstalled the old. The installation went fine until it was installing Quicktime and then quit. The insaller keeps saying "Error reading setup initialization file". I redownloaded it and tried again many times.

I went to add/remove progs and noticed that iTunes appeared in the list twice, despite having no working program. So I uninstalled one which went fine, but then the other keeps giving the message "Error applying transformations. Verify that the selected transform paths are valid. C:\WINDOWS\installer\{34534-blahblah}\1033.mst". I went to the installer directory and that folder is there but it says its corrupted and unreadable, it won't even let you delete it.

I've never had anything corrupted on this computer before. What should I do to get the bad iTune files off, then have it install correctly? Thanks
