When receiving phone calls, can not hear the caller. Can only hear if on speakerphone. When volume is turned up, it says it is turning up volume for head set when head set is not plugged in.

Restart your phone, hold down the home and off button till the apple symbol comes up. If that doesnt do it, then you need to restore your phone in itunes from your back up.

try inserting and removing the regular ear buds 7 or 8 times
ie you have to have to turn on the iPhone and remove the headphones whilst the screen is active and unlocked.
can only talk on speaker phone, phone says headphones connected when they are not?
