repair OSX 10.5 filesystem from a OSX 10.6 disc?

Hi Everyone.

Question: Is it possible to repair an internal disk running OSX 10.5. filesystem in a 2008 MacBook, with Disk Utility from an OSX 10.6 install disc that came with a 2010 MacBookPro?

A friend might need help, and she doesn't have her original install disc with her, that came with her 2008 black Macbook computer. And I only have the 10.6 install disc at hand.

Thank you!!!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

It might work just for Disk Utility, if you can boot from it (since it's a machine specific, not a generic, retail disc, it may not boot. Hold C during boot.) But without the correct disc, two things to try. Try a Safe Boot, Use fsck if necessary. Both covered here.
