Q: Windows print server authentication from Mountain Lion
The company where I work has set up a bunch of Xerox color printers through a Windows Print Server. Since I work as a consultant over there, my MacBook Pro is NOT allowed to joint the domain although we can print and access other network resources.
I'm trying to figure out how to connect and log into the Windows Print Server from OS X 10.8, as we MUST authenticate before we can print.
The IT staff has provided us with the name of the print server which goes something like "\\theserver.something.com" and the name of the printer which goes like "WIP3ABCDEF".
1. How do I set up such a printer with Mountain Lion?
2. Do I need to first authenticate to the print server using "Connect to Server" and SMB, or do I need to use the "Advanced" section in "Print & Fax"?
Thanks.

The SMB path would be smb://theserver/WIP3ABCDEF
If you wanted to add your Windows user details to the print queue, so that you don't get prompted to authenticate, then you could type;
smb://username:password@theserver/WIP3ABCDEF
