Q: iCloud Mail is slow to send

My iCloud Mail seems to receive mail fine. However, when I send something using the Apple Mail client on my MacBook, it can take up to 2 minutes sending something even if it contains just one sentence. After looking at the "Activity" window, I can see that when I click send, Apple Mail is trying to connect to the iCloud Mail server. For some reason, this takes a long time. Once it connects, it does send. Are there any settings I can change to speed up this process? I believe I'm simply using the default settings.

Thanks.

MacBook, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Same deal here. Sending any mail from my Mac for the last week or so—the activity window will show it is connecting to p03-smtp.mail.me.com. This will take up to two minutes or longer before the mail message will send, as described.

I've done the ol' iCloud account reset/re-adding of the account, but that didn't work. This happened in the past, too, for a day or two, and just miraculously went back to its normal behavior.

Did somebody trip over a cord at p03-smtp-mail.me.com?

I can't believe no one else is having this problem. Boy, these bizarre inexplicable quirks in behavior drive me nuts. Not quite sure what to try next. Been a good two weeks now.
