Hi,
Why do you think it is not an Internet Problem ?
Why do you think it is not a Google Connection Problem ?
To Connect with GoogleTalk you have to have a Google Mail ID.
You also have to Enabled "talk" on your Google Settings.
Other than the ID and the password is the same the Mail Side and the "talk" side use different servers.
The Web Browser way to access your Web Mail page then therefore the Chat options id one of port 443 as part of the secure Login to the Web Mall page.
The app uses port 5223
This port is not always open in routers by default.
From there it could be about how the ports iChat needs were opened in the first place.
If Port Forwarding was used then all the ports ICHat needs would have been "pointed" to the Computer.
But.... If it was still using DHCP then the computer may have a different IP now and the ports may not be pointing to the computer any more.
As the first 1024 ports are always open some Internet stuff that is more common will still work.
To state this another way.
You connection to the Internet is controlled by 65535 Ports (A Bit like TV Channels)
Of these the first 1024 are always open to any computer or device that connects to the router.
The others have to be allowed in some form for app that use them.
One method is called Port Forwarding.
Normally considered for use on a port port at a time basis.
Each port used by and app would be listed and linked to an IP
The IP would be that of the computer, the set up effectively Pointing data to the computer.
The computer would be expected to keep the same IP.
In many cases it will do but if Off for more than the Lease Time then the IP can change and the set up no longer works.
