$329 = €252 at today's rate. Then you have to add on local Sales Tax at 21% which would make it €302 plus there other costs which make things more expensive in Europe.

The US price does not include Sales Tax either.

Apple applies different pricing strategies in different countries. If you check the price of any item in the US Apple Store you will see that it does not follow a stright exchange rate into euros. That's why so many people bring them over from the US...

There's always a high mark-up in €, it's usually the same character as in $. In the Irish store it's €339 (€10 more.)

The new ipad at €509 is €30 more here than the 3 was - add the extra for the lightning camera kit, so i'm not too bothered about the "new-new" version.

First off i love all Apple products but Apple failed with this ipad mini price factor. Steve Jobs first off stated that he would of never wanted to create a mini IPad because he felt it was a waste of time. Trust me Google it. I'm happy though apple did decide to produce an IPad mini however, the price is not justified for what's on the market today. I would rather buy a full sized Pad 3 for 170 dollars more. If I wanted a hand held tablet under a budget i would rather buy a Google nexus 7 for 199.99. I would have never thought I would want to buy a Google product but for 199.99 you cant beat the price. The only down fall is the lack of app's that Google has just ***** compared to the Apple market. However at least i have adobe flash support on the nexus 7 tablet. I believe if apple would have priced it at 250 dollars they would crush the tablet market completely. I think Steve Jobs would be very disappointed considering he never wanted a mini i pad but ,since they took the company in a new direction they could have at least priced it in the 200-250 dollar range and completely own the tablet market. What a major disappointment that apple has been taking since Steve jobs passed away. (iphone 5 no real big deal and now the price of an Ipad mini is over priced for the mini tablet market 😟

That's why there is what's known as "choice". You can choose to buy the larger iPad for $170 more while those without the extra money or who prefer the smaller form factor can choose to buy the iPad mini.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking your opinion, budget and preferences are the same as everyone else's.

And you are very naive if you think Steve Jobs wouldn't have allowed the iPad mini to be released. It is well known that he left a product road map in place for the next five years, and Apple would have been developing the mini for far more than a year.

Throughout his career, Steve Jobs frequently dismissed the idea of certain products and then later went on to release them. It was all part of Apple's secrecy so the fact Steve Jobs once said no to a 7" tablet publicly means nothing inside to what's being developed inside Apple's HQ.

Who would want an iPad mini without Retina Display for $329.00. I wouldn't.

Thankfully, you are not everyone. If you don't want one, don't buy one. Nobody is forcing you.

While Blackberry Playbook 64s are being dumped at £129 why would anyone spend £429 for something similar? I was waiting for the £150 mini ipad but it never came. I love Apple stuff but the old ipad was just too much, the new mini is still too much but you get even less. Pity.

Indeed. I will be getting one when I am ready. To me £269 is not cheap but still reasonable. Not too much.

Why do the posters with higher points on this forum feel they can belittle and insult those with less? Opinions are valued.

In general i was always hoping for a smaller iPad but since the release of the retina display why not just include in the mini. I imagine they will release a separte version later and give you the option to choose between retina or non-retina. hopefully that also includes a price drop. I really want the mini but if they do to this what they did to the iPad 3 i.e. a six month life cycle I will be ever so ******.

If you seriously think a Blackberry Playbook is "something similar" to an iPad, you need to look a lot closer.

If the build-quality, the OS, responsiveness, app library, accessory market, usability etc. etc. are all things that don't matter to you, then the iPad is not for you. Many people are willing to pay a bit more for those things. Some people are content with cheap, inferior products that are no longer supported and nobody else has.

There is a very good reason why Playbooks are being dumped at £129. Nobody wants them, and RIM themselves are in the dumper and desperately trying to offload devices they can't sell on people who don't know any better, and think they're buying 'a cheap iPad'.

I have to say I'm with you on this one. I have the 3rg gen ipad and my 4 yr old daughter loves it for educational games. I thought Santa might bring her an ipad mini if the price was right, however I think she will now be getting a Nexus7. I can't justify that money for a 4yr old and also like you say re flash. Sorry apple I am one big fan of your products (got iMac, iPhone x 2, ipad, iPod) , however sometimes we need to admit we can't afford to buy "the best" and need to consider VALUE FOR MONEY, and ipad mini is certainly not VFM.

I was highly excited to see that the iPad mini was coming out but when it did reveal, I wasn't happy with the price. I have everything apple and I was excited to add the mini to my collection of electronics but not for the price of $329. You could easily put another $70 towards the $329 and you can get an iPad instead of the mini and be just as happy. I'm let down my Apple marketing strategy with Samsung, kindle fire an etc company. If they wanted to compare to those company, they should have made it realistic with their price and maybe it would be the must have item for the holidays.
