10.8.2 desktop icons don't stay put
On startup, desktop icons are no longer where they were on shutdown. Not earthshaking, but annoying.
Mac Pro (Early 2008), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

I too am having this problem.
Just got off the phone with Apple Care.
Hold down Control button & click anywhere on the desktop in a blank area, and right click mouse.
Pop up appears. Click "clean up by", side menu appears, click on any of the suggestion. I chose the 1st one and viola, the icon could be placed anywhere again.
Yeah, thanks. I know how to fix it by hand. I'm whining about the need to do anything about it.
With all the elegant improvements in the OS, you'd think they could record where the
desktop icons were, and put them back there.
Again, thanks.
