How do i upgrade from Leopard to Snow leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion without using the DVD?

Apparently someone mentioned if i wanted certain applications back i would havve to upgrade my software to snow leopard, Lion, or Mountin Lion. And also this also has to be under my flash players and my internet browsers say that they will not update anymore because i'm running on Leopard.

I have an intel core 2 duo processor with 2 GHz, 2 GB of memory, Space: 62.27 GB.

Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion

You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.

You can purchase Snow Leopard by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will receive physical media - DVD - by mail.

Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:

Snow Leopard from Amazon.com

Snow Leopard from eBay

After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.

You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download.

Be sure your computer meets the minimum requirements:

Apple - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.

Lion(s) run better on machines with a i5 or i7 processor.

Since your machine is rather dated and on it's last legs, better to just order the 10.6.3 disk by calling Apple, then runing the installer/upgrader.

Your 10.5 programs will run in 10.6 and your files are left intact (but always backup regardless in case of problems)

Most commonly used backup methods

If you decide to go to 10.7, just to let you know all PPC based programs and hardware drivers will NOT run, so it's a huge cost upgrading/repalcing software and even some hardware (no drivers), some that you'll likely never see again (like Scrabble for instance)

I would stick with 10.6.8 max, and start saving up to buy a new machine and slowly ease into it. 🙂

Mac's don't last forever, laptops about 4.5 years or so with almost daily use.

Good Luck 🙂

Sorry about that, the 10.6.3 disk is rather cheap, like $29 or something. 10.7 will cost even more with another $29 + all upgrades for software.

Perhaps you should just stick with 10.5, just don't do anything risky, like enter your CC or personal information on websites.

So is there like a torrent version?

We can't advise where to get illegal downloads of software, anyway you really don't want to be taking a chance it's been hacked/cracked/malware anyway.

The DVD/CD Combo drive grabs disks but doesn't ejects the disks.

You likely have just one disk that the Mac can't see.

Hold the trackpad and option key down (on built in keyboard) while booting the machine, if the disk doesn't pop out, then when you reach a bunch of icons on the screen, wait and keep presssing the eject key on the keyboard.

Click the arrow to boot OS X 10.5.

Good Luck 🙂

I've tried that so many times it stil stays in there doesn't eject. So to know for a fact how it came like that is the fact my cousin dumped my iced coffee on my keyboard which seeped through the battery, and DVD CD combo, i'm thankful that i carefully took my macbook pro apart with my tools and clean out the coffee stains but couldn't save the battery nor DVD/CD drive so i have to put most of my rent money in getting a new DVD/CD drive, new unibody screen since the old screen was cracked and chipped, new battery, and probably new keyboard buttons this coming February.

I know about the malware, hacked, cracked stuff i took pride of using a vuze torrent program APP. Well i know people hate using torrents but it's the only hope to have a second thought of what's out there since i can't touch my money until this coming January but i won't use my money on fixing my macbook pro because that money is going to be used on paying a room, food, and a 4 day pass to an anime convention.

I always considered torrent files because at some rate i may not have enough and might move to shelter if it's that serious.

That's not cheap to me that's a rip off. I buy software that has to be under $20 each, considering the amount of money my mom lends me is 100 per month so i have to make that money last that long.

If you get the illegal torrent version, don't bother coming here for help. The torrent versions are unsupported.

Allan

Don't bother coming here for any help that's not related to seperated stuff? Are you serious? So even if i own an iphone 4, another macbook pro and not get any help from either of you yet you're here to help your mac costumers on getting special information to fix certain things. You're expecting me because i chose something that's illegal because i'm a cheap *** idiot that i can't get ANY support on other things that you expect me to believe in your words when your words seem to be considered a threat towards me?

I'm sorry, but if haven't $20 for upgrading your computer's software, then perhaps you need to reconsider your budget or don't own a computer.

I need a computer to do my DJ music, make commercial graphics, and talk to my friends that live 2 - 60 hours away from me. If you can't help me then this is just a joke to me because a supportive budget i can get some stuff and you guys are just pathetic supporters giving me expensive products to upgrade my laptop. Living in a $299,000 house and paying $50,000 on rent with electric, gas, water, cell phone, and internet bills besides the food, and clothes. I will not move out of house and paying over $50,000 per month on an apartment rooming with people i don't know nor feel comfortable with. You have to realize how bad the economy is wherei live in AKA Southern California. Your advice and opinions just gave me a red flag even my friend who fixes macbook pro's and iMac's said that your advices are pathetic as if you know little to not a lot of information to help me fix my issue by myself since i can't go to a apple store and fix it there because i didn't pay extra for the applecare insurance nor buy it at the actual apple store. I bought it at frys electronics store for $850.

So you can't fix my issue even when i accidently removed the preview.app and can't change my desktop wallpaper anymore? I already fixed 80% of the damage ust need to replace the screen, the battery and DVD/CD combo drive that's all. Like i said earlier i can only touch my money in january i can finaly buy what i need in february i just need just a simple yes or no on what program to use and don't tell me sh*t about you can't give me a f*cking answer on an issue and telling that my macbook pro who i'm using right NOW is crap!
