Q: No DVD drive in new iMac ???

So I have just completely upgraded my 15 years of home movies on DVD over the last year.

I converted video, old DVDs and used imovie to make great copies for all the family.

I just learned that if I get a new imac from Dec 2012, they have no DVD drive ?

What ?

If its true, then I need to buy into some device that can play and burn them for the next years.

Yep, Apple have a vision, but I cannot see it and I am 50.

In 180 months , when I am 65, I wont care about the visons of Apple.

But i will care about the memories on the discs and as Apple dont let on why they restrict the continuation or stop the use or anyone else using aformat that quite honestly is massively serviceable today and will be for some years.

Glad I dint chucj out the old dell and also, I will going fire her up to play my movies and memories. Steve Jobs is pictured on some of those DVDs, guess the new guys wanted to move on pretty fast from that era too !

Hmmm, now where is the off button, I need to do some exercise and get real again !

see ya

Please reread my forth bullet point. I never said I was happy that there is no built-in optical drive in my new iMac. I plainly said I was not happy about it.

Saying that Apple is "stealing" our money because the new models don't have built-in optical drives is quite a stretch. Yes, it costs a little more but after using mine for a while I don't think it is overpriced. It is a much better iMac than last year's model, to me at least easily worth what Apple charges for it.

You are wright about your bullet!!! But they are stealing... If you sell an integrated (all in one) computer and don't include mouse, keyboard or DVD and you are charging extra for one of those, you are, for the price of a 27", as a corporation stealing from your customers in fine print.... Sorry I just think that... Yes there are computers sold without a keboard or a mouse or a display or parts or whatever but they are seriously cheap!!!! My way of thinkin though...

Well I say steal because the option it's not given to me. See if they are so sure about the DVD why don't they offer a free one or a discount with the purchase your machine. And of course I'll always buy Mac there is no other choice in the market such as this. It's an awesome computer it just doesn't have a DVD solution that I like or want.

Who are you to expect something for free, pay for an external drive if you want one.

I'm just a customer.... The last time I bought a gun it cost me 1000 U$S and the guy that sold it threw in a 60 U$S cap of the shelve, for free, with the brand of the gun in the deal... So I say if they are sooooooo sure about the DVD they should let you choose wheter you want it or not….Foooorrrrrrr Freeeeeeeee!!!!!!!

pipogoro has a broken understanding about business. pipogoro believes that a corporation is evil and is stealing pipogoro's money if the product the corporation offers pipogoro to purchase does not contain what pipogoro wants. the logical conclusion of this is: if pipogoro doesn't want to be robbed, pipogoro simply does not purchase the product that will cause the corporation to rob pipogoro. otherwise, pipogoro is the thief - because pipogoro forced pipogoro to purchase something that pipogoro is being robbed by purchasing.

of course, pipogoro has other options: pipogoro can purchase used iMacs off of ebay or craig's list. who is robbing who then? does apple rob pipogoro by forcing pipogoro to purchase an old iMac with no warranty and no reliable knowledge of the seller?

of course, pipogoro can always choose to live in a society (china, cuba, venezuela, north korea) where pipogoro will have one and only one choice for every item pipogoro wants. me, i prefer to live in a free society where i have lots of choice - and where i can always choose to make my own.

Who are to too deny him what he wants and had? Wanting something that he had and got emilinated to increase bottom line is not nessassarily wanting it for free.

Just think... no DVD to break down (inside the Mac)... If it breaks down you can buy a new one a throw the broken one in the trash... and your Mac is still pristine as the day when you bought it.You can buy a better DVD compared to what Apple was offering in the Mac. Most if not all DVD players comes with free software (Toasts and a bunch of other free software) to make your DVD... on and on. It's a bang for the buck!!!

I was having a blast with this one really!!! I love sarcasm but then it hit me… I don’t really want to push the envelope on this one… But I remembered the riots and suicides in foxxcon and in other of those facilities from canon, and really guys I have to say that corporations can be evil…

I thank god that apple is opening a plant in the states, and that I’m in the end where it’s consumed and not  in the end where is produced…

To add... If the DVD breaks down in Mac it a minus point when selling it. It's like having the dome light(s) not working in the Mercedes that your trying to sell.
