Q: Will returning to factory setting require IOS6 to be installed?

If I return my old 3GS to factory settings to give to a new user, does ITunes force it to upgrade to IOS6 ( it's currently running IOS5 and the new user doesn't want to upgrade)?

iPhone 3GS, iOS 5.1.1

I'm sorry, but Apple does not provide a downgrade path for iOS. Because downgrading is unsupported by Apple we cannot discuss it on these forums, but you can use Google to find information on how to install an older version of iOS on any iDevice.
