The serial number should be on the iPhone box or receipt. If you bought it from Apple or a carrier, they can give you the serial number.

If the phone has been backed up to your computer you can get the serial number from iTunes. Go to the iTunes "Devices" preference and position the cursor over a backup but don't click. It should display information about the iPhone that made the backup.
