Erasing Free Space and Got Interrupted

Question

I was erasing the free space, using CCleaner, on my computer and it got interrupted. How do I recover the GBs I lost?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Be very careful with the Terminal command. Typos can be a disaster. Copy/Paste only.

Note: This worked in Tiger and Leopard, 10.4 and 10.5. Not sure if the file will be in the same location in 10.6.)

I'm curious to know why you're using 3rd party crapware to carry out a function that's built in to Disk Utility…
