Will new Mac mini (2012) run World of Warcraft

Hi everyone. After yesterday's presentantion of the new Mac mini, I'm interested in purchasing one for my 42" LCD TV. The question is: will it run World of Warcraft on Full HD resolution? I don't mind upgrading the RAM to 8 GB and purchasing the quad-core model. But I don't want to end up with a system that cannot run smoothly this game - the only game I actualy play.

Thanks in advance.

There's no way in Heck that the new Mac mini will give consistently decent frame rates at Full HD resolution. I have a Mac Pro with an ATI Radeon HD 5770 and that struggled with Cataclysm at 1920 x1200.

Then again, if all you do is sit in the AH gaming the economy, you might be fine. 🙂

EDIT: of course, it all depends on the level of detail you want. I'm sure if you're happy to be on the lowest settings you'll be fine.

This post on WoW Forums discusses that the WoW MoP Game client may use the CPU to boost FPS rather than the GPU (6th paragraph down): http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/6490539797

I wouldn't be surprised that the Mac Mini will be able to satisfactory handle better-than-expected game settings to the HDTV.

There's also more examples on YouTube of MacBook Airs (2012) running WoW at decent FPS.

I've ordered the Mac Mini quad-core i7 but must wait 2 weeks before I can see how it handles the game.

Graphics settings on 'High' gives fps of around 15, 'Good' give fps of 20-24, 'Fair' gives fps 40-45. I leave it on 'Good'.

I know you're trying to help the OP but with WoW, it's so contextual. Any WoW player knows that an FPS quote should be combined with a description encompassing name of server, in-game location and number of players online in the vicinity.

Still, there's always Boot Camp: Windows 7 should give a boost if ML fails to cut the mustard.

Good luck. And hurry, Garrosh is waiting!
