Spent an hour on the phone with AppleCare today, including two clean installs, and an effort to download the 10.8.2 combo update (which as we know doesn't work).
No progress so far. Should be interesting to see how long this takes to be resolved.

Bought the 13" retina today, and had the same problem of updating to 10.8.2. Glad that I did a search a found many have the same issue. I will wait for this to be sorted out.
My 15" retina have no such issue.

Yesterady Apple via telephone told me to get the computer exchanged to a new one. I didnt want to take this for an answer and called today again (be aware I am living in Sweden - time difference!) and at first they wanted me to do exactly the same thig - exchange of computer. They argue the problem with not being able to update can have so many different reasons that it is better to hand the computer in and get a new one.
Since I read a LOT of other forums about this issue as well I "know" or at least read that people who did exchange machines recently have the same problems again I wouldnt give up and talking to a "senior" he said it IS a software problem and WILL BE fixed soon. They took away the possibility of downloading an update from their homepage which was exactly for late 2012 machines because the needed to work on that update.
HE did not recommend to hand in the machine and get a new one. He said it will soon be fixed with a new update.
I just took a deep breath and am happy that it is nothng wrong mith my mbp13r!
Still, people, keep ringing Apple about this.

Have exactly the same problem. My dad yesterday bought a Macbook Pro 13" Retina and i am setting it up for him. I used the backup from his other macbook Pro 13". It all seemed to work perfectly. When i tried to open iPhoto it says i need 10.8.2. But when i try to update the system the Appstore doesn't show any updates.
When i try the combo download from the Apple support page, i cannot select the destination volume. "The destination volume doesnt't have the requirements needed for the install (translated from Dutch).
So what do we do, just wait?

I just had Apple support on the phone with this same question. They told me that there is an issue with 10.8.2 with the Keychain and so Apple stopped issuing 10.8.2. I have to wait for 10.8.3 which is expected within a few weeks.
Just a little patience, that's all.

My new and EXPENSIVE Mac Book Pro 13 has the same problems reported here...I guess there is no fix yet and we'll just have to wait for an answer from Apple. What a disappointing bad experience.
"iPhoto can’t be installed on “Macintosh HD” because OS X version 10.8.2 or later is required. You can update OS X from the Updates page of the App Store."
After downloading the "Combo Updgrade"I get this:
"volume is not compatible with this update"

Same issue. Just bought the new 13'' retina display yesterday. Still no update showing up in app store, but happy to know that it'll be coming soon and nothing is wrong with the comp itself. Thanks for the feed!

I've got the same problem with my new mcbp13. Won't give me an update from 10.8.1. to 10.8.2. Hope this is taken care of soon.

I have had the same issue with TWO 13" rMBPs. 3 hours on phone with apple care on the first one, ended up just exchanging for a new one at the store, and now the SAME THING is happening with the one I got in exchange! I'll be returning this puppy and getting a refund.

MBP Retina 13 bought in Brazil the day before yestarday: same problem!!! It`s an universal problem with 10.8.2 and some hardwares from Apple. We need an official warning and even and official contact and instructions/information on Apple site. That's what a consumer expect from a serious company.

I took mine back to the store and was treated very well. My advice would be to return (not exchange) your machines and wait for the next iteration of the rMBP 13". You don't want to get stuck with a buggy machine and it seems that apple doesn't quite have this issue all figured out. They just released a lot if new products within a short period of time so it might take a bit to get everything up to the same level as the devices they've been making for years.

This morning 10.8.2 was finally available for my rMBP 13". Download and install without a problem as experienced before. So a expected there is nothing wrong with the rMBP 13", just a minor issue with the software which is solved now. So the iPhoto download was also performed successfully.
Enjoy your beautiful machines!

Hello WimJ, where did you get this update from? Because it is not available on my App Store.
